Remember Those Felt Letters

Who says teaching the alphabet needs to be tedious and boring? Here’s an idea to spice things up a bit that your kids would love.

Use felt letters. If you want to save some time, you can find entire sets of felt letters at most any book and stationery store. They usually come with about four or five of each letter, extra vowels and punctuation marks, and they’re pretty inexpensive as well. Then you only need to cut them out. If you prefer, make some letter stencils out of sturdy cardboard and trace them onto various colored pieces of felt.

Lay a cotton bed sheet across the back of the couch or chair. Now your kids can form words, phrases, and sentences without the felt letters sliding off. Instead, they’ll lie nicely on the cotton, or they can be moved and rearranged until you’re ready to put them away
