Don’t allow interruptions to be the order of the day. Turn the phone OFF or the answering machine ON. That means cell phones, too. Watching you stay on point teaches the kids about priorities and how to stay focused.
If you allow constant interruptions, the kids won’t see the necessity to remain centered on their work, which will translate to their jobs once they’re grown. Stay on pace with what you’re doing and take care of the non-school related things during scheduled breaks or after school.
Do remember how long the break is and be back to school on time. If you allow the phone call to linger a few minutes longer, or the interruption to extend beyond the scheduled break time, you’re late! If you expect the kids to be on time, you must be on time as well.
